Dr Melissa Chong

Dr Melissa Chong holds a Master of Psychiatry (MPM) from the University of Melbourne, and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Monash University. In addition to her fellowship in general psychiatry, she has attained a Certificate of Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from the RANZCP. 

 

Dr Chong has over ten years of professional experience, including five years of postgraduate specialist training in psychiatry. Her medical career includes roles across Alfred Health, Austin Health, Monash Health, and Peninsula Health. She has worked across a variety of settings including adult inpatient and community, perinatal and infant therapy, child and adolescent inpatient and outpatient mental health, youth mental health, neurodevelopmental assessment, as well as intensive outreach and mobile support.  

 

Along with extensive experience in some of Australia's largest and busiest metropolitan health services, Dr Chong has also worked both in-person and remotely with regional health services. Throughout her career, Dr Chong has treated patients and families from a wide range of backgrounds and demographics, including those from culturally and linguistically diverse communities. 

 

Dr Chong has specialised training and experience in Single Session Family Therapy from The Bouverie Centre, which she has applied in her work at Alfred Health. She is skilled in treating eating disorders using Family Based Therapy (FBT) principles and has undergone extensive training in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), including the use of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2). Additionally, Dr. Chong has received comprehensive training in family therapy and structured therapies from the University of Melbourne's Mindful Centre. 

 

Dr Chong has special interests in treating anxiety, depression, neurodevelopmental disorders (including ASD and ADHD), eating disorders, trauma, individual psychotherapy, family therapy and child-focused parent work.  

 

Dr Chong does not accept referrals for psychotic disorders, bipolar disorders, substance use disorders or forensic assessments. Dr Chong specialises in the treatment of children, adolescents and young adults. Referrals over the age of 30 will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
